Installing the SimBio Active Learning System® at the Root Level (Canvas Admin instructions - LTI 1.3)

If your school does not currently have an integration agreement with SimBio, please start by reading Initiate a Canvas Integration with SimBio Active Learning System®.

Once the approval process has been completed, the next steps toward successfully integrating the SimBio Active Learning System® with your Canvas course need to be completed by someone that has a Canvas Admin account. (Likely the IT person for your department can steer you in the right direction). 

Admin Instructions

  1. Log into your Canvas Admin Account and navigate to the account where you want to deploy the application.
  2. Click on Apps in the left-hand menu. Then click on the Manage tab and finally click on Install a New App in the upper right hand corner.

     

  3. IN the Install Method dropdown, scroll down to JSON and choose it. Make sure the 1.3 LTI version is selected. Then click the Next button in the lower right.
  4. Paste the custom JSON file that you received from SimBio in the box labelled JSON Code. Then click Next.
  5. Keep clicking Next until you the Next button becomes Install App and then click that. 
  6. You will then need click Unlock APP in order to unlock the APP.

  7. You will then click the Pencil Edit button to change the App's status from Not Available to Available.
  8. Don't forget to click Save.
  9. You can then copy the client Id and the deployment id from this page to send back to SimBio.
  10. In order for the app to be fully configured, you need to send an email with the following information to julia@simbio.com
    1. Client id 
    2. Deployment id 
    3. Canvas Domain/URL (To find this information - log into your Canvas Account and from the Dashboard, copy the website URL)
  11. The SimBio Active Learning System application is now installed in your instance of Canvas. Each professor who would like to use this integration will receive a unique SimUText Key for their course and will use that to connect the application to their SimUText. (Note: If you would like to install the app in multiple sub-accounts, use the same client id but make sure to send along the different deployment ids).
